Victoria Diamond Jubilee Coins Medallions

     These are commemorative coins of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria . They were issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the accession of the queen. Queen Victoria came to the throne at the age of 18 on the 20th of June 1837. She was the sovereign of the United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland .She was also the first Empress of India of the British Raj from 1st May 1876 until her death in 1901. Her reign lasted for 63 years , 7 months and 2 days to be exact. Thus , it was the longest female monarch in history.   The coins in the pictures are made of gold , silver and copper respectively. Both obverse and reverse are the image of Queen Victoria .The difference is one side is the image of teenage Victoria while the other side is Victoria at her old age.

The Straits Settlements Coins

    The Staits Settlements was established in 1826 which consist of Penang, Singapore and Malacca. The coins with the inscription of Straits Settlements were first issued in 1871. Before that, coins bearing the words 'East India Company'were used .Then in the year of 1862, coins with inscription of ' India Straits ' were issued when the settlements were under the control of Calcutta government based in India.  In the year of 1867,the settlements were directly ruled as the Crown Colony by the Colonial Office in London.

Queen Victoria era coin





The British formed  the straits settlements in 1826 which consist of Penang, Malacca and Singapore. The coin displayed here is the 1 cent coin of Queen Victoria. There are also half cent and a quarter cent of the straits settlements coins.

Chinese Copper Coin

This is a copper coin from the Dynasty Qing in the late nineteen century. The coin is different from the typical Chinese copper coin which is round and a square hole in the middle. It was circulated during the reign of Emperor Guang Xu.
